Ida Maria: Honesty about Promiscuity
Readers may recall my fondness for honest music.
In this light, I give you Ida Maria – I Like You So Much Better When You’re Naked:
So, the song is entirely catchy and Ida is a great performer, but beyond that, I think it says something very true about hook-up culture. My favorite part? ” I don’ mi-i-i-i-i-i-i-ind if you take me home” as if playing coy, followed immediately by the needy, “C’mon take me home.”
The runner-up? “Ok, you’re kinda sexy, but you’re not really special.” Nothing makes a man feel like a man like, “Well, you’ll do.” I suspect the same is true for women.

Well, I have never been much of a punk fan, but I agree that this song is very revealing of hook-up culture. My favorite line: “I like ME so much better when YOU are naked.”
That line is pure gold.
I first heard the song one night in a pub. It was part of a repeating playlist. The first few times I wasn’t really listening and I assumed that it said, “I like you so much better when you’re naked. You like me so much better when I’m naked,” or some such reciprocation. The first time I actually heard the line correctly I thought, “Better pay attention here Brett. Sounds like this gal is on to something.”
That line could mean SO many things, and all of them interesting.
“Ok, you’re kinda sexy, but you’re not really special.”
Reminds me of Springsteen’s classic line, “You ain’t a beauty, but hey, you’re alright.” What a charmer!
