Forgiveness and Redemption on LOST
March 11, 2010
I’ve been a fan from the first season. This show embodies story-telling at it best, is deeply character-driven, and is infused with religious themes. For those unfamiliar with the show, the details described in this clip will make no sense to you. Suffice it to say that Ben Linus has done some very evil things, and Illana was about to kill him to get revenge for one of them. But you cannot miss the sheer power of forgiveness and redemption shining through.

It looks like Ben, who has at times been positively despicable (and never more so, in my opinion, as in his treatment of Juliet) has, on balance, more good than evil, including in the flash sideways. On the other hand, the machine was apparently right that Sayid had more evil than good, and though he had tried so hard in the flash sideways, he’s still (as someone else observed somewhere) a natural-born killer.
That was a great episode.
Great clip!
I’ve never seen Lost before, but that scene was really moving. To me it looked like the confessional. No matter what we’ve done, there is someone who will “have” us. We just need a glimpse of mercy to know which someone that is.
Brett, Lost is worth the investment.
To me it looked like the confessional.
Brett,
Do you live in one of those red states where everybody gets to carry their guns to church? :-)
I live in Canada where I have never seen a gun that was not in a museum, a private collection, or for hunting deer and gophers. ;)
Yes,very powerful scene..It is all about forgiveness.
