In other words the state needs to be clear about the necessity of first things but cannot decide the first things for the society at large.
Responsible civic-minded persons prevent tyranny of all kinds.
Absolutism is a bad thing, for it claims that the absolute can be contained in one of our “isms.” It cannot. That’s why we need many “isms” while recognizing that the absolute cannot be contained even by all of these.
That sounds Hegelian.
