Thank you to the Vox Nova reader who notified us about two rare Dorothy Day interviews from the 1970s that he posted on YouTube.

Thank you so much for posting these.
Very nice, indeed!
Thank you for disseminating the DD interviews–the point, of course, is to have as many people as possible view them.
However, the contract I was required to sign with WCVB-TV Boston stipulated that their name be mentioned, i.e., THEY own the copyright to the Jessup interview. As a condition of consent they insisted upon attribution–a “thank you” and a link to their website.
The same with the permission I received from Christopher Closeup–attribution and a link to their website as a condition of upload consent.
Please post both conspicuously–before consent is rescinded, and then no one will be able to see and hear the interviews.
Thank you
Dean Taylor

No problem, Dean.
To my new friends at New Voice–and I do sincerely beg pardon, Michael, for the tedium of yet another e-mail (mea culpa):
“I, Dean Taylor, cannot give upload consent to Vox Nova for the Dorothy Day interviews for the simple fact that it is not mine to give. Upload consent may be requested of WCVB-TV, Boston by writing to them here:
http://www.thebostonchannel.com/index.html
Similarly, upload consent for the other video may be requested by contacting Christopher Closeup here:
http://www.christophers.org/Page.aspx?pid=695
This is done solely in concert with my responsibility to the copyright owners.”
Having re-read the contracts I’ve signed, this pro forma gesture is required of me as per my agreement with the copyright holders.
And, Michael, please believe me, I would do the same for you–i.e., to protect Vox Nova–if I had the made the arrangement with VN.
Dean
Dean – I don’t understand… Do you need me to modify or remove this post? Let me know. Thanks.
From what I understand, Mr. Taylor believes YouTube’s video embedding function is the same as “uploading.”
In my view this is not true. However, if it would relieve your concerns you may simply use a “turn off embedding” function in the options for each video in your YouTube account. The disallow embedding option is in the “broadcast and sharing options” in the YouTube edit page.
I believe this will make the video boxes here on Vox Nova direct the viewer to YouTube instead.
Thank you for sharing these!
