“For all the people.”

October 26, 2009

Yesterday, after communion, I asked my three-year-old who he wanted to pray for. Usually he offers a cute litany of people we know and most of the animals at the zoo. But this time he broke from tradition.  He said, “For all the people.” I asked him if he meant all the people (to make sure he was really saying it with some intention) and he replied in his sing-song-inflected voice: “Yaaa. All the people.”

Well, it sounds like a good start! Do you pray the rosary with him often? It sounds like he is following this: “Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead ALL souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy”?

I’ve always found this prayer very interesting. If it was said anywhere else, I expect people would say it was heretical, because it asks for universal salvation (and so allows one to have that hope).

Oh dear. The traditionalists will tell him he should be praying “for the many”! :)

It sounds like he’s been using his “Dare We Hope?” coloring book!

There is a “Dare We Hope?” coloring book? I need to get that for my boy.

Thanks for sharing Sam. Sounds like you are doing something right.
