As readers might know, I am a supporter of NFP, but am often quite scandalized by the way that we present it.
I think this is darn funny stuff. Anyone who gets bent out of shape has, I think, missed the point.
Very refreshing to read since at times NFP seems to be “used” as a talisman that cures all facets of life. The Anabaptists Hutterites out West average about 10 children per family and don’t seem to use that fact to bludgeon anyone else. Some could learn from that. The note on the woman with 9 children in the piece and admittedly with marriage problems was outside the box as Catholic reporting.
ps…9 children and marriage problems incident is in the original Hoopes piece from 2004.
This suggestion is not original but I think it bears repeating. As an act of solidarity with the women on whom they impose NFP, each bishop should, before rising each morning, take his own temperature with a rectal thermometer and note it in his journal.
HA! Clever Dcn. Carroll! Except I can’t imagine how it would possible for a bishop to impose anything of the sort on any woman.
