Jaco-inspired Improv

April 18, 2009
tags:

This is a clip that the singer from the neo-soul/jazz project (Gruvment) I am playing in these days took with her camera (so the sound is pretty tinny and harsh) during some practice improvisations. The melodic part is playing off a line from Jaco Pastorius’ “Potrait of Tracy.” I’m the guitar player.

Why is this <American Idol demo on this Catholic website?

Because Sam is a Catholic musician, the site includes aspects of culture, and music is a constitutive part of culture?

Next time I’ll post “Shout to the Lord” or something.

PS: Anyone who finds an obscure Jaco melody being quoted in a random jam session during band rehearsal to be “American Idol demo” should be very careful about being critical. Jaco Pastorius isn’t exactly what most people would call “pop”.
