Slavoj Žižek – Maybe We Just Need a Different Chicken

January 11, 2009

I found this talk of Slavoj Žižek on Google Video, and thought others might enjoy it. Žižek, as always, is controversial, insightful and entertaining — but I am sure, viewers will differ as to when he is being controversial and as to when he is being insightful.

    Henry,

Thank you for this video. It is sooo long. I’ve watched the first 1/3 and am quite intrigued.

Yes, thanks for posting this. I’ve watched the first 43 minutes or so, and cannot imagine when I’ll have the time to finish it, but it is fascinating. Zizek is every bit as manic as his writings would lead one to anticipate. And nothing in the 43 minutes I’ve watched was anything other than insightful.

I don’t find him manic, just a bit of a showman… what the difference is between those terms is not important.

You are welcome; I just stumbled upon it and thought some others would like it as well (especially because of how long the video was, he could go into more depth than a quick 20 minute presentation). I watched it all yesterday; if one has read his writings, one will not be surprised at some of the examples he gives — though they are given a more human face than what one gets in print.

Do you find him being a showman a good thing or bad? I think he is both – but I also think such showmanship is a good thing.

Good thing for sure, in this case, I think…
