How Moderation Works
If any of the following appear in your comment, it needs administrator approval:
(Some political hack words), (obscenties), (name calling keywords)
Experience has shown that there typically isn’t anything intelligent attached to those comments or the comment will tend to be inflamatory by its very nature. New words are added all the time. There are roughly a dozen IP addresses that will trigger a comment automatically into moderation. If a particular comment appears inflamatory, a contributor may ‘unapprove’ it, thereby placing it in moderation pending the post author’s approval. If a comment has more than two links it is placed in moderation automatically.
If your comment disappears immediately upon submission, Akismet has most likely claimed it as spam. Don’t bother retyping and posting it again. It should appear in a half hour. I’m not thoroughly familiar with Akismet, but the following tend to provoke its ire:
- Posting any kind of link without having posted to VN previously. This includes a homepage link.
- Posting multiple links.
- Having been banned at other sites. The lazy man’s way to ban something is to pop their IP address into the SPAM blacklist. If having been notified that you are banned, you continue to attempt to post at those sites, your SPAM score is higher.
I would heavily caution against arguing over what and who gets moderated. That is what email is for. I would also caution against typing equivalents of these keywords to get around moderation. If you aren’t typically moderated, the most likely reason for your moderation is a keyword or links.

Pray tell how many of the contributors on this blog actually are able to have their postings shown? Hmmm… Rabid liberalism can manifest itself in total hypocrisy. I’m sure this comment won’t make the cut, but at least I know you’ll be reading it.
As a contributor I will offer my impressions of your comment:
* You start with a nonsensical challenge. “I suppose your husband gets to share a bed with you” sounds like quite the challenge too until it is evaluated. Contributors are treated differently than commenters. That anyone would think otherwise is a reflection on their assumptions.
* Love the hypocrisy charge. There is a certain egalitarian spirit that loves this charge. This is a persuassive charge with some of the contributors. It isn’t with me, because I’m not an egalitarian. One is only a hyprocrite for treating people differently if one believes they should be treated the same.
* Now we have the challenge. I suppose I should ponder whether you will think less of me if I delete your comment. Unfortunately for you, I don’t really care what you think of me. There are very few people that have entered these comments whose opinions I have cared about. I wouldn’t lose a moment’s sleep having deleted your comment. Since your comment wasn’t profane, I decided to keep it.
* Finally, you offer the assurance that I will take notice. I suppose at this point it would be fruitless to deny that I have taken notice. With a typical 100+ comments a day, I don’t take notice of many of them. Even this one here will be one that I’ll faintly recall by morning.
Rabid liberalism can manifest itself in total hypocrisy.
Profound.
This blog is not in line with any of the other Catholic blogs I know of where all speak in the same voice and dissenters are quickly banned in order to preserve the integrity of webmaster’s conservative ideology. This blog is a disgrace and there can be no reason other than radical liberal editing. I will pray for your souls.
The repartee here is very witty: I like it!
SR,
You called someone “stupid” in another thread. It slipped by the “moderators”, probably because you have a liberal bent.
Profound indeed that it is you who responded.
M.Z. Forest,
If I had the time, I would post every hypocritical statement made by the Obama freaks on this blog, but I have neither the time nor the energy. Don’t you read any of the posts or the threads?

This is evidence that much of the blogosphere is nothing more than an opportunity for narcissists to stare at themselves lovingly in the mirror. When I posted that comment, I was not in the least concerned by the possibility that you would delete it. In fact, I was rather confident you would. You obviously do care about what people think about you, because you actually posted my comment and replied to it. Not to mention, you happen to contribute your opinions and personal analyses over a wide range of topics… well, wide in the context of someone who has tunnel vision. I also have no doubt that you care little about comments from other who disagree with you (once again bolstering my point that the blogosphere is largely a home for narcissists). I’m glad you won’t lose any sleep over anything I say. You need your rest, we all do. If it is because my comment wasn’t profane that you decided to post it, surely you won’t mind posting this one either.
With love,
joseph

Yes, no doubt it’s a liberal conspiracy. I’m really tight with the mods, they let me curse and swear, even call people stupid, like when I said ‘It’s the Hypocrisy, Stupid!’ Most people ‘get it’. Others take it personally ;)
SR,
Gotcha, emoticons and all ;) :) :( LOL ROLF
M.Z.: I suppose this is as good of time as any to note that you have been banned from Vox Nova. All comments from you from now on will be deleted upon sight.
Does this mean that my link to my homepage has to be vetted by VN censors? If so, then can Poli (my friend) please grant a me a pass of some kind?
There’s no vetting of the homepage. That’s Akismet’s crankiness at times. That said, claiming friendship with Poli is a mark against you…. ;-)
I think it is fair policy and have no gripes. THough I note my moderation comments seem to go up after I make a critical post about a VOX NOVA entry on my blog. So perhaps I am am one those”IP addresses” :)
But I am guest here and I also think people have the common sense to know when I am critical that the link provides a person to exmine all sides.
Looking at the title and the signature, this post has to win some sort of irony award!!!
You will find your stay here very short at your pace Mr. McCann.
It also appears that double links to other Vox Nova posts sets off moderation.
