The Washington Post reports today: “Scientists have transformed one type of fully developed adult cell directly into another inside a living animal, a startling advance that could lead to cures for a plethora of illnesses and sidestep the political and ethical quagmires that have plagued embryonic stem cell research.”
Like last year’s welcome development of making adult cells into an equivalent of embryonic stem cells without harm to human embryos, this appears to be another major breakthrough. This is truly wonderful news, and yet we have silence from the major presidential contenders. Sad, you would think that all would embrace such developments vocally and with enthusiasm. All of the promise of ESCR without the ethical dilemmas. McCain and Obama should move swiftly to clarify their priorities on funding this type of research.
My wife and 17 year old daughter just came back from the pro-life protests at the Democratic National Convention, (we just live a few minutes away), and she told me about really funny teeshirt slogan one of the one of the Abortion Survivors was wearing:
“Barack Obama the abortion president. Run children Run.”
Speaking of survivors, one of the protesters was a girl who survived a saline abortion at 4.5 months.
