Lugo granted dispensation
President-elect Fernando Lugo Méndez of Paraguay has been granted an unprecedented dispensation by Pope Benedict XVI, which makes the retired bishop’s official status that of lay. Apostolic Nuncio Orlando Antonini told reporters that Pope Benedict “recognized that [Lugo] was elected by the majority of the people to lead Paraguay for the next five years.” While Lugo will always be a bishop on account of having received Holy Orders, he will be free from any sanctions from the Holy See for pursuing governmental office.
I think this is a very good thing for Paraguay, and I hope that Lugo will fulfill his promises and that the Lord blesses the people. For more on Lugo and some of the misinformation spread by LifeSiteNews and Rorate Caeli, click here.

Good news.
Q: Does the “misinformation” conveyed by LifeSiteNews extend to the reporting on the appointment of two pro-abortion ministers for his future cabinet?
I don’t know, Christopher. Are you asking if I trust LifeSiteNews’ report? I can’t say that I do because:
1. The article takes as fact (i.e., Lugo appoints two “pro-abortion” ministers) something it has heard third hand;
2. There is no primary source material offered for us to verify this third-person account.
3. LifeSiteNews erroneously and clumsily reported on Lugo in the past.
Of course, the bigger question is, what effect would non-legislating “pro-abortion” ministers have in a nation whose laws protect the unborn? I could be wrong, but you seem to take a rather univocal view of the political issue abortion, looking at things in a vacuum rather than in reality. If I am wrong, I do not know why you bring up LifeSiteNew’s article.

Question: Did the dispensation come before he stood for election?
Comment: We really need to pray for the people of Paraguay that they will be saved from the hell that attended each previous attempt to create heaven on Earth.
You dudes and dudettes ought to report on this.
File under “Bush celebrates 40 years of Human Life Enc.”, and “More Catholic than the USCCB”: “The Bush Administration . . . a proposed definition of pregnancy that has the effect of classifying some of the most widely used methods of contraception as abortion. A draft regulation, still being revised and debated, treats most birth-control pills and intrauterine devices as abortion because they can work by preventing fertilized eggs from implanting in the uterus. The regulation considers that destroying “the life of a human being.”
Did the dispensation come before he stood for election?
No, obviously.
We really need to pray for the people of Paraguay that they will be saved from the hell that attended each previous attempt to create heaven on Earth.
Such as?

Which acts by the USCCB would give us the impression that it is “less” Catholic than Bush? What of Bush’s approval of Plan-B?

Such as the united states of america.
I don’t know what is more surprising — the dispensation granted by the Vatican or the fact Policratus supports Lugo’s presidential run.
