Attitudes to Climate Change

July 12, 2008

Case 1:

“There is a need to “wake up consciences,” Benedict responded. “We have to give impulse to rediscovering our responsibility and to finding an ethical way to change our way of life.” Benedict said that politicians and experts must be “capable of responding to the great ecological challenge and to be up to the task of this challenge.” “We have our responsibilities toward Creation,” Benedict said, stressing, however, that he had no intention of weighing in on technical or political questions swirling around climate change.” (Hat tip: Eduardo Penalver).

Case 2:

“The American leader, who has been condemned throughout his presidency for failing to tackle climate change, ended a private meeting with the words: “Goodbye from the world’s biggest polluter.”He then punched the air while grinning widely, as the rest of those present including Gordon Brown and Nicolas Sarkozy looked on in shock.”

Needless to say, here come the apologists…

(The sad thing is, they are not even writing for money.)

Why defend it? It was a really dumb joke.

I don’t think that most of the advocated environment policies that Bush is scorned for not enacting are the right way to go, but it’s still a dumb joke.

    Is climate change real?

I heard that factory animal agriculture in this country emits more so-called greenhouse gases than transportation. With the economy going to hell it may be time to return to a more agrarian culture. Few, I fear, are prepared for this.

Better learn how to butcher chickens and grow veggies.

MM: is it not tiresome to be a foot soldier in Primarily Political Partisan Club? And is it not distasteful to use the Holy Father as a means to take shots? All these small moments of “hah! look at these crazies!” have an air of insecurity and smugness that loses its amusement after a short while.

Of course, there is nothing natural about factory farming and it is right to critique it from an ecological perspective just as much as transportation.

    Go veg!

Well, Jonathan, when we have a arrived at the point when the Rede Cross has accused the US regime of war crimes, then we have no option but to speak up, and forcefully.
