McCain: “The facts of global warming demand our urgent attention”

Good… Apparently, McCain does not see global warming as a myth:

“The facts of global warming demand our urgent attention, especially in Washington,” McCain said in remarks he planned to give at the Vestas Wind Technology plant.

“Good stewardship, prudence, and simple common sense demand that we act to meet the challenge, and act quickly,” he added.

“I will not shirk the mantle of leadership that the United States bears. I will not permit eight long years to pass without serious action on serious challenges,” he added.

Unfortunately, because he’s on the bandwagon too. Look, there are serious environmental issues out there, but most are local or regional. Anthropogenic global warming is something approaching the status of a hoax that’s used in service of very anti-human ends.

It just shows that there is no real choice this year. McCain is just a liberal in disguise. Did anybody notice that the global temperature went down in 2007?
Mmmmm. Not much warming going on here. Maybe it is a different globe?

  3. Policraticus Says:

    Dan,

Climate change need not be a purely political issue, and one year neither proves nor disproves the phenomenon. Let’s think bigger on this.

McCain knows what a President’s responsibilities are, but the voters don’t!

Has he given any proof that he can put into action the wise words he speaks?

  5. Dan Says:

Has he given any proof that if global warming is a man made phenomenon or not, that he can do anything to stop it? I haven’t heard how anybody is going to stop this imaginary monster. The answer always seems to be tax the people and take their freedoms away. I don’t see how taxes are going to cure the Sun’s 11 year cycle. And as far as thinking bigger, how about facts? Do they even matter in this world anymore?
People say “most” scientist agree. Well, have you taken a poll? How many actually agree? And what kind of scientists are they? I am a scientist. I don’t agree. So in my world the majority doesn’t buy the lie.

There is no “man-made” global warming. Global warming is a natural process in which man may serve as a catalyst.

Science never proceeds on “proof” or a total consensus. If the history of science teaches us anything, it tells us that probability, conjecture and error drive the scientific process.

I haven’t heard how anybody is going to stop this imaginary monster. The answer always seems to be tax the people and take their freedoms away.

This sentence here makes your appeal for proof rather disingenuous. If you are already convinced that climate change is “imaginary,” then I “imagine” that you have already set the boundaries and made the rules for what sort of “proof” is required.

And as far as thinking bigger, how about facts? Do they even matter in this world anymore?

What “facts” are you bringing to the table in this discussion? What “proof”?

People say “most” scientist agree. Well, have you taken a poll? How many actually agree? And what kind of scientists are they? I am a scientist. I don’t agree.

Well, what sort of scientist are you? Climatologist? Chemist? Any field relevant to the discussion? Why don’t you agree?

  7. Dan Says:

Interesting how the term Global Warming has morphed into Climate Change.
Another word for Climate Change is “weather”

  8. Policraticus Says:

As a contributor to a Catholic blog, I tend to use the terminology found the Church’s declarations. Forgive me.

Would you kindly answer some of my questions?
