I never had it published -- at one stage, I attempted to do so; one of the reviewers suggested it should be published, the other did not and I was told to resubmit it after some revision. Some things got in the way, and so I didn't get back to it. I decided it was worth posting here, because I knew it was worth a read. I edited it slightly, fixing a few problems as I did so.

Now that it is online, I do not think any journal will want to publish it. But if you think I am wrong, please let me know.

I really appreciate how much you enjoyed the work, and quite glad you want to cite it. If you have any more comments, or suggestions, let me know.

Thanks !

Kyle

I thought this would serve well for a presentation after the Maistre series, because there are some similar concerns (in reverse) going on in both. Both Theophilus and Maistre have been reviled, and both are people I find myself profoundly interested in. I don't agree with what Theophilus did, but I did come to my own understanding for what he did, and I do think it changes how one looks at him. And I think a big part of it is we must understand the time from which he came, because it also changes how we read him. But I will get into this later in the paper.
