Since the start of the War in Iraq roughly 3990 US personel have died for their country.

Over five million babies have been slaughtered by abortionists since the start of the Iraq War.

Which milestone is of greater importance?

Tito – Relax. I think this post is just fine the way it is. You’re falling into the same trap that Michael J. and Mark D. did on the God Bless America post.

Thank you, TeutonicTim, for injecting some reason and measure here.

How many Iraqis have died, Tito? The gospel of life is not supposed to end at national borders.

Cost of Iraq war and occupation according to the Congressional Research Service = $222,222 PER MINUTE

    Lives lost = PRICELESS

Five years is enough. Catholics must stop supporting this war.

Yes. the 4000 soldiers are victims too, victims of Bush’s folly and of all who supported it.

But American will get over that, — all too easily — while the people of Iraq will be living with the ghastly results of the war for decades to come — those of them who are still alive I mean.

Man – you people just couldn’t leave it alone.

    Is

“Lord, we pray for peace and justice for all. Amen.”

Not good enough? It doesn’t mean anything other than what it says.

Maybe this has all been thrashed out on Vox Nova ten times before, but will someone tell me how we get around Tito’s point if indeed we truly believe that a fertilized egg at minute one is a full-fledged human being the same as any born baby or you or me.

Dave – There need be no “either/or” when it comes to abortion and war. Tito’s only “point” is to express his opinion that the human beings killed in this particular war are of less value than the human beings killed through abortion, and the “point” he makes should be ignored by any conscientious Catholic. Catholics do not play these number games. Human life is human life, and RCM rightly acknowledges the need to pray for an end to the indefensible killing taking place.

As as American Christian response to the Iraq debacle, “We pray for peace and justice for all” is NOT enough, obviously.

Excuse the jaded analogy, but German Christians would NOT be responding adequately in regard to their country’s sins if they just said “We pray for peace and justice for all”. In fact it took them a long, long time to get beyond that kind of pious evasion.

Believe me, America will be dealing with the moral aftermath of the Iraq War for most of the 21st Century. If Saddam had to answer for his American-backed atrocities of the 1980s twenty years later, America will be answering for its annihilation of Iraq much later again.

I am NOT anti-American, and my information about American crimes abroad comes almost in its entirely from good Americans.

Spirit — I do agree that prayer is not enough. In fact, focusing on prayer alone to end things like wars (and abortion) can be gnostic. Christianity involves what we do with our bodies, and not only what we do with our prayers. Caro Cardis Salutis. Catholics should not only pray for an end to the Iraq war, but should refuse to let the state use their bodies to fight it.

But sadly, some of our fellow Catholics above have a problem with even praying for an end to the war!

God bless America and Iraq and all indigenous peoples and poor peoples and rich peoples who don’t know any better.
