Is Barack Obama the messiah?

Which makes me wonder: is he perhaps the Antichrist?
Then again, it seems Pope John Paul already spotted the rascal.

N.B. Entirely tongue-in-cheek.
Matthew
See my post earlier today.
I think using this kind of rhetoric is disgraceful. Even if it is “tongue in cheek” it is tongue in cheek with Christ.
Actually, I think irony can be incisive. And the blog mentioned above, as mentioned in your post, is an exercise in irony. It is indeed something worth mentioning when so many lionize Obama; even more, it says a lot about the state of politics that this is the rhetoric being used. Of course, it’s ridiculous. Much like rad-trads who think Bush may be the antichrist, or who claim that JPII thought such a thing.
And: I just wanted to add some levity to the post earlier today. No disgrace intended, and in my opinion, none inflicted. (Upon Christ, that is.)
That was a cool pic of Obama’s transfiguration.
Good job on the satire.
You can see the liberals and the cafeteria Catholics come out now from behind their psuedo-intellectual facades.
Priceless.
I ahve to admit that site is pretty good. I do love the Chris Matthews quotes , who I have to admit I enjoy watching:
“I’ve been following politics since I was about 5,” said Mr. Matthews. “I’ve never seen anything like this. This is bigger than Kennedy. [Obama] comes along, and he seems to have the answers. This is the New Testament. This is surprising.”
Hahahahaha!

More dishonest representation. Two texts out of context. Moreover, the second confirms one can make a kingdom, just it is imperfect and temporal. The first doesn’t say anything about creating a perfect world. Of course, I guess I could quote Jesus and then have your out-of-context Benedict quote and do what you just did.
“The Kingdom of God is within you” Jesus.
Ha! Great post!
There is no god but Obama and Chris Matthews is his prophet (at least until he loses).
Henry,
First of all, I saw the juxtaposition of those two quotes at Darwin Catholic, was entertained by it, and added it here because I felt it fell within the spirit of this post. So sue me.
Second, if George W. Bush or any other Republican had said something remotely like what Sen. Obama said, you’d be accusing him of secular messianism. You’ve already accused him of that for less obvious things.
Despite your protestations of being untainted by partisan preferences, you sure seem to have a different set of standards depending on whether one has an “R” or a “D” following their name. Perhaps I’m not the one being “dishonest”.
Wrong on so many accounts, Jay.
I would not accuse Bush of such for those words. How can I? Perhaps if you would read and comprehend my political posts, you would see my why.
Jay,
Henry K is an indictment of some (not all) of the bloggers on Vox Nova. Cafeteria Catholicism has found a home here at Vox Nova.
Let the hair-splitting continue!
Viva Guillermo Clinton!
Viva la… forget it.
Is it because I follow the teachings of Christ, telling us that we should work to show respect to everyone, and to even love our enemies, I am a Cafeteria Catholic. Or is it because I parse the words and show the problems of the presentation and implication of it that I am a Cafeteria Catholic?
Of course, this from the guy who constantly judges people from ignorance… (Balthasar, anyone?) Tito, you have a problem, a serious problem. Talk to a spiritual advisor. Get the speck out of your eye.
Henry K,
You are pretty charitable and always kind to me so I don’t want to argue, but gently say that you are a long way from being the uberliberals that Poli and Kat are.
I like reading your posts and see you coming around little by little, so don’t get to upset with me and tone done the rhetoric a bit, it doesn’t to soothe the soul.
Tito
And who talked about the “shining city on a hill”?
Don’t be hypocritical.
Henry,
Tito — Shove it.

Tito,
You are acting like a little man.
Mark D | 02.12.08 – 1:09 pm | #
Tito – Yes, my true colors indeed indicate that I have little patience with Gerald Augustinus wanna-be twirps like yourself.

Would you please rush to Tito’s defense from these uncharitable attacks by your buddy politicratus? Oh, I think I saw Mark D around here somewhere too. What about the post attacking Justice Scalia as a “cafeteria Catholic”….oops, your hypocriticism is showing.
God Bless
Matt,
I don’t think Politicratus would ever tell someone to “shove it.” Those comments were mine.
Yep, and that’s how you operate. Most of the others here are “liberals” as well, but you take the title as the nasty one.
Oh, come on. Call me nasty, but don’t call me a liberal. Unless you mean “liberal” like Rowan Williams is “liberal.”
A liberal anarchist? Doesn’t seem likely.
Politico.com: Obamamania.
Matt,
I did not realize my words scandalized you so much. And I have absolutely no ties to Vox Nova–other than making less than 10 comments here ever in my life. But Tito’s repeated ‘argument ‘that the mere having of Karl Marx’s picture on this blog spot’s header somehow entails that Poli and Kat are Marxists could have warranted words not nearly so charitable.
.
Apologies for mistaking Micahel I. for politicratus. Nevertheless, my point is that Henry swears he defends everyone from such personal attacks. I just wanted to give him the opportunity to defend Tito.
God Bless,
Matt
“A liberal anarchist? Doesn’t seem likely.”
Not likely, but one can call oneself whatever they wish.
I wish Obama well, but I fear that the force behind him is more negative — disgust at the Bush administration and at politics-as-usual — than positive. American voters are understandably desperate for change, but they need to think about this very soberly. The cult of personality surrounding Obama is a substitute for this morning-after examination of conscience.
Is Obama a JFK — I think Kennedy’s eloquence came from depths of the unspoken — he did not put it all out there, as Obama seems to be doing — there were hidden reserves of intelligence and knowledge that I am not sure can be found behind Obama’s soul-stirring speeches.
I suppose Obama will become president, but I think he and the US will have a rocky ride after that. Will he shut down Guantanamo etc. and end the Iraq debacle? Remember what a rough time Clinton got over gays in the military, which you’d have thought was a cinch.
A liberal anarchist? Doesn’t seem likely.
Depends on the kind of anarchism that one is drawn to, doesn’t it?
