On Huckabee, Catholics, and listening to Alexham
January 8, 2008
Dear Governor Huckabee,
Remember when I told you not to do this?
Well, this is what happens when you don’t listen to me.
Time to mend some fences, I’d say.

This is being overread. Catholics predominantly voted in the Democratic Caucus. A vote not for is not necessarily a vote against.
I’ve been wondering when the uneasy coalition between conservative Catholics and conservative evangelicals would strat to show signs of strain.
That said, I’m not sure this is necessarily the beginning of the end.
What worries me even more than Hagee’s anti-Catholicism is his Christian Zionism, and that of Gov. Huckabee:
“When asked about a Palestinian state, Gov. Huckabee stated that he supports creating a Palestinian state, but believes that it should be formed outside of Israel. He named Egypt and Saudi Arabia as possible alternatives, noting that the Arabs have far more land than the Israelis and that it would only be fair for other Arab nations to give the Palestinians land for a state, rather than carving it out of the tiny Israeli state.”

I ahve commented on tthis today and I guess I shall I will have to go intooverdrive tonight as this agains spreads.
First the Iowa maps do not show much except a rural vs Urban thing
Second, with all due respect the doubel standard has to end. Mitch Romney has go tthe endorsement of Bob Jones University. Alan Keys and Catholic Jeb Bush, and Pres Bush has appeared there.
Also Alex Both Seantor Brownback, Senator Santorum, and people like Senator Liberman have been associated with Hagee and appeared with him as to his political PACs and movements
I have not seen any calls from Catholics to ask those people to disassociate themselves. Why is Huckabee different. I am going to look at Hagee PAC tonigh and see how many Catholic POlticains got money. I am pretty much willing to bey they recieved money. I guess I need the rule book on where and who we can associate with
As to if there is anything to it. It is one entry that started on the Atlantic blog just looked at the Counties. It was not untill we got into the comments and the blogger(one Catholic blogger) that made this jump. I am sure it will spread now. However there have been Catholics bloggers that have pointed out the double standard
Including Eastern Orthodox ROd Dreher at Cruncy Con that has done several wonderful post shoiwing the National Review doubel standard on this.
I keep saying this is a issue that cuts both ways. We need to be very careful setting up a new standard that might just bite us back
The blog I was referencing was the one that Pro-Eccleas is referencing and was commenting in the origianl atlantic article.
I might add I am more concerned about anti Evangelical comments than any ANti Catholic I am hearing out in the blog land. Some of its is like KNow NOthing politics in reverse
One Further thought. We then we go from a time where Catholic politicans not trusted, to Catholic Politicianstrusted and invited in to now Catholic POliticans can’t talk to certain groups because their theology is bad.
I find that kinda of shocking and in a very big sense not Catholic. I guess we have “arrived” and can now have this standard.
However my personal experience with politicans and Churches like it is that people feel most comfortable interacting with their leaders in this forum. IN Louisiana it is done on aregualr basis
As I have stated before many of the “anti Catholic Churches” leaped to Bobby JIndal’s defense when the State Democrat Party did the worst KNow NOthing politics against Bobby in the Protestant part of the state. THe Catholic BISHOPS were Silent.
BY the way if you want to see what we had to endure go here to their site
http://www.jindalonreligion.com/
So Huckabee is getting attacked and as a Roman Catholic in Louisiana I still have to endure seeing this site up that was paid for by the democrat party. All over an Apologetic piece he wrote for Oxford Review
As I said we need to be very careful of the standard we are setting.
