Some Music To Inspire
November 15, 2007
I really like U2 and Bono. But I also enjoy Bono’s duets with other musicians (it would be great if someone put them together on one CD release).
Here are a few of them which can be found on youtube.
Which do you think is the best?
Pavarotti and Bono: Miserere
Pavarotti and Bono: Ave Maria
Pavarotti, Bono, Eno: Miss Sarajevo
U2 and Bruce Springsteen: Stand by Me
U2 and Bruce Springsteen: People Get Ready
Corrs and Bono: Summer Wine
Corrs and Bono: Stars go Blue
U2 and Paul McCartney: Sgt Pepper’s
Bono and Frank Sinatra: I’ve Got You Under My Skin
U2 and Johnny Cash: The Wanderer
U2:The Wanderer (tribute version)

Miss Sarajevo, hands down. Not only a beautiful song, but when considered in light of what was happening in Sarajevo, it is one of the more powerful songs by U2.
I also like Bono’s duet with Frank Sinatra, “I’ve Got You Under My Skin.”
I really like “The Wanderer.” Johnny Cash’s voice is great, and the rhythmic beat of the music is too. Plus the lyrics are so intense.
You will not be surprised to know that I am a huge U2 fan (attended the 205 Vertigo concert in DC). I really love the religious-themed song, especially on Achtung Baby (one, Until the End of the World) and some of the latest stuff (the one he wrote upon the death of father is especially moving), plus of course, stuff like this:
“We need
Love and peace
Love and peace
Lay down
Lay down your guns
All your daughters of Zion
All your Abraham sons”
Policraticus — thanks for the Frank Sinatra; I’ve added it to the list!
Michael and I went to the 2005 Vertigo concert in Houston as well… it was great!! Not better than Coldplay though :-P
Saw them 3 times on the Elevation tour, including one that was post-9/11 at Madison Square Garden. That was the most amazing concert experience of my life.
Definitely love “the Wanderer.” It capped off what is a really underrated album (Zooropa).
It seems there is a general agreement of the greatness of U2 going on here (no debates?! I am surprised).
One is one of my favorite U2 songs as well.
I wonder if I should do a review of Bono’s odd movie, The Million Dollar Hotel for Vox Nova at the Movies sometime soon (where Mel Gibson was a perfect fit!)…. hmm…
The Million Dollar Hotel remains for me one of the most obscure films I have ever seen.
I love it: Bono brings us all together!!!
No debate here on U2. I saw the Vertigo tour in Anaheim April 1st 2005, the night before Pope John Paul II died. Bono gave a moving tribute to him.
I was a fan when most of you were probably in diapers. Now as
far as Cold Play. All I can say is while I’ve never
been waterboarded, I can’t imagine it could be much worse
than having to listen to them.
I work out to U2. I Love, love, love them!
I saw Vertigo in San Jose in April 2005 (a couple days after JPII died, and Bono did a tribute) and Elevation in San Jose in April 2001. It cost a bunch, but it was worth every penny both times.
To answer the question — I always liked “The Wanderer” myself. Best part of the Zooropa album. (Admittedly feint praise from me, I was never a big fan of their techno songs.)
“The Wanderer” is the only U2 song I know – got it from the “Essential Johnny Cash” CD. And I love it. Thanks!
