Luciano Pavarotti Dies
One of the greatest voices of our time was silenced earlier today. Luciano Pavarotti suffered from pancreatic cancer and passed away at age 71. His personal life was controversial and his charisma was sometimes hardly popular; however, one cannot deny the effect this man had on our spirits–how they were elevated at the sound of his bright and soft voice.
I am an opera geek thanks to Pavarotti and especially after I heard him interpreting the Nessun Dorma Aria from Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot (video below). May he rest in peace.
Just when Pope Benedict XVI said yesterday that
“[Music] has the power to lead us back … to the Creator of all harmony, creating a resonance within us which is like being in tune with the beauty and truth of God, with the reality which no human knowledge or philosophy can ever express.”

How sad! I’m not much for opera, and would probably not listen to even Pavarotti, but he made an appearence on one of my favorite U2 songs (Miss Sarajevo) and was absolutely enchanting. May he, by the mercy of God, rest in peace!
I had the opportunity 7 years ago to see him live in concert in Austin, TX. It was spectacular. One of the highlights of my life.
I had that same experience on the same song, but only it was from the winner of Britain’s Got Talent, Paul Potts.
This was some of the first opera I ever heard, and whenever I think of this aria, the voice playing for my mind’s ear is that of Signore Pavarotti. What a voice! I pray that he is the newest tenor in God’s heavenly chorus! Requiscat in pace!
Oh my god, my grandma loves that man. I can’t lie… I love some of his songs too! I heard he died yesterday at the news. Hope he rests in peace.
I just read this article (http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/new.php?n=10338), which says that he died in full communion with the Catholic Church. Very good to hear indeed.
